Family-Centered

Postpartum Support

I've always been fascinated by how the first few weeks of a baby’s life shape their brain, laying the foundation for neurodevelopment into childhood and beyond. At first glance, it may seem like all they do is eat, sleep, cry, and repeat. But beneath the surface, they’re learning—how to trust, how to adapt, and how to navigate this brand-new world.

The same is true for new parents. Everything feels unfamiliar. The life you once knew—safe, predictable, comfortable—now feels like a distant memory, leaving you overwhelmed, uncertain, and searching for reassurance. Someone to trust.

It would be my absolute honor to be that person for you and your growing family. From day one, I’ll be right by your side, guiding you through the ups and downs of postpartum and parenthood. Together, we’ll build your confidence, find your rhythm, and make this transition feel a little less daunting—and a lot more empowering!

Hi, I’m Alaria!

I've been immersed in the world of babies and parenthood for as long as I can remember! Every role I've taken on has expanded my skills—whether it was keeping kids engaged at summer camp, caring for multiple infants in a childcare setting, nurturing a brand-new baby as a nanny, or supporting vulnerable families by promoting school readiness and healthy parent-child relationships. Over the years, I’ve not only gained professional expertise but have also deepened my ability to meet people where they are at, offering empathetic, unbiased support through all kinds of situations. Now, as a mother myself, I can truly say—I get it. I’ve been there!

A little bit about me, I’m a dog person through and through. I was a “dog mom” before having human babies and get very excited when my clients mention they also have a fur baby in the household! On the rare occasion that I find any free time, I love tinkering with my Cricut or spending time outdoors—preferably in the warmth and sunshine! I’m a big fan of true crime podcasts and shows. As a family, we enjoy all of Madison’s must-dos, like the Madison Children’s Museum, Concerts on the Square, and, of course, the Farmers' Market. My absolute favorite summer and fall family-friendly spot? Schuster’s Farm! Maybe we’ll see you there!

Just a doula passionate about uplifting parents and nurturing babies in Madison, WI!

What can a Postpartum

Doula do for you?

Emotional Support

Postpartum doulas provide invaluable emotional support for new parents. The transition to parenthood can be overwhelming, and having someone to talk to who understands the challenges can help alleviate anxiety and boost confidence. Doulas are parents' biggest cheerleaders—uplifting, encouraging, and reassuring them throughout this tricky transition.

Hands-on Care

Doulas provide hands-on support with tasks like feeding, diapering, and comforting the baby. During this time, parents are encouraged to rest, shower, or take a well-deserved break. Postpartum Doulas are masters at multitasking and demonstrating as they go — trying out different soothing techniques, practicing swaddling together, or providing step-by-step instructions as parents give their baby the first bath at home. Oh, and a good Doula will always have the camera ready to snap pics of those first special moments!

Education and Resources

Doulas educate parents about newborn behaviors, lactation and feeding, sleep strategies, and more. They also make sure the birthing person is made aware of the proper healing process, providing tips to aid in recovery after child birth. Postpartum Doulas reassure parents of what’s “normal” or directly address what concerns might warrant further assessment. In these instances, a doula can help connect families to well-vetted professionals in the area. Doulas also provide referrals to other community resources such as local Parenting Groups - emboldening moms and dads with knowledge and community connections.

Sibling Care

For families with older children, doulas can assist in helping siblings adjust to the new baby. They can engage older kids in activities, providing them with attention and a healthy distraction while parents focus on the newborn. Or vice versa, the doula can take over newborn care during the visit, giving the parents time and space for quality one-on-one time with the big sibs.

Household Assistance

Oftentimes, parents can feel overwhelmed or like they are “falling behind” as things pile up around them. Postpartum doulas can help with everyday household tasks like staying on top of the baby laundry (blow-ups, spit-up, oh-my!), tidying the living areas, and doing the dishes. Duties also include sanitizing pump parts and bottles! Ensuring that everyone is comfortable and relaxed in the space around them, allows parents to focus on bonding with their baby…aka the real important “work”!

Nutrition

While parents are heavily focused on feeding their baby, Postpartum Doulas ensure Mom and Dad are eating as well. Meal prepping nourishing meals, picking up grocery orders, and serving up snack after snack are just a few examples of how doulas keep the whole family happy and healthy!

Unbiased Expertise

Doulas provide a non-judgmental space for parents to express their concerns and questions. This can be especially comforting for first-time parents navigating a steep learning curve. Different from visiting family members or friends, Doulas offer advice only when prompted or when safety is an issue. They keep their personal opinions to themselves, providing only the latest, evidence-based information!
